Bruce Cox

Dr. Bruce Cox serves as Professor of Music at Bob Jones University within the Department of Instrumental Studies, School of Fine Arts and Communication. He currently directs the Symphonic Wind Band (since fall 2019), leads the trumpet choir, and oversees the Lab Band for music education students while serving as Department Head for Instrumental Studies.

His academic credentials include:

• Doctor of Musical Arts (DMA) in Trumpet Performance and Pedagogy from the University of Southern Mississippi
• Master of Science (MS) in Music Education from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign
• Bachelor of Science (BS) in Music Education from Bob Jones University

Dr. Cox's professional focus centers on trumpet pedagogy and performance practices, brass ensemble direction, and instrumental music education methodology. With over 25 years of continuous involvement in BJU's band program and extensive private trumpet study under renowned instructors including Michael Tunnell and Ray Sasaki, his expertise bridges academic instruction and professional performance standards. His teaching encompasses brass methods, conducting techniques, and performance literature across both major and non-major student populations.

As an active performer, he maintains membership in the Spartanburg Philharmonic Orchestra and previously performed for 25 years with BJU's Foundation Brass ensemble. His professional engagement extends to frequent guest clinician roles at Christian high school band festivals and summer camps.
