Bridget Anne Emmett

Bridget Anne Emmett is a Research Professor and Principal Scientist at the UK Centre for Ecology & Hydrology (UKCEH). She leads the Environment and Rural Affairs Monitoring and Modelling Programme (ERAMMP), funded by the Welsh Government since 2012. She currently serves as President of the British Ecological Society and is a Member of the EU Mission Board for 'A Soil Deal for Europe'. Previously, she was UKCEH's Science Area Head for Soils and Land Use, overseeing over 120 staff and 40 postgraduate students.

Her research focuses on interdisciplinary collaboration to enhance soil health, ecosystem services, and policy development at landscape to national scales. Bridget has published over 170 articles with an H-index of 64 and over 15,000 citations. She advises governments and organizations globally, including serving as a Trustee for Rothamsted Research and the Ecological Continuity Trust.

Bridget’s outreach includes founding the ‘uksoils’ initiative and co-authoring the BBC/Royal Society film on soil health. She chairs the UK Soil Observatory project, improving public access to soil data. Awards include the 2023 OBE for Services to Soil and Ecosystem Sciences and the 2016 Marsh Award for Climate Change Research.
