Bridget Burton is a Senior Lecturer - Clinical Educator at the TC Beirne School of Law, University of Queensland. Her role within the UQ Pro Bono Centre supports clinical legal education programs and fosters pro bono contributions from students and staff. She specializes in social justice, human rights, anti-discrimination, and law reform initiatives, with a focus on practical, community-oriented legal projects.
With 20 years of legal experience, Burton previously served as Director of the Human Rights and Civil Law Practice at Caxton Legal Centre, leading teams in high-impact litigation and law reform advocacy. She co-led Australia’s shadow reporting process for the UN Universal Periodic Review in 2020/21 and remains active in human rights committees, including co-deputy chair of the Queensland Law Society’s Human Rights Committee.
Bridget’s research interests span clinical legal pedagogy, Indigenous cultural safety in law, and systemic barriers to justice. She has authored over 80 legal submissions and contributed to parliamentary law reforms.
Her work emphasizes interdisciplinary collaboration, bridging academia, policy, and grassroots advocacy. She is a vocal advocate for mental health awareness in the legal profession and workplace harassment prevention strategies.
