Professor Anthony Cassimatis is a faculty member at the TC Beirne School of Law, University of Queensland. He holds the position of Centre Director at the Centre for Public, International and Comparative Law and served as Deputy Director of the same centre. Previously, he chaired the Australian Red Cross' International Humanitarian Law Committee for Queensland (2005–2018) and remains a member since 1998. He is the editor-in-chief of the Australian International Law Journal and has been a mentor to Jessup Moot teams, leading them to national and international victories. Additionally, he was a Visiting Fellow at the Lauterpacht Centre for International Law at the University of Cambridge in 2007 and 2018.
Anthony's educational background includes a Bachelor of Arts and a Bachelor of Law (Honours) from the University of Queensland, followed by a Master of Law (Coursework) from the University of Cambridge, and a Ph.D. from UQ focusing on the legality of trade measures in response to human rights violations.
His research interests emphasize Public International Law, Administrative Law, and Public Law broadly. He explores intersections between international humanitarian law and human rights, governance challenges in fragmented global systems, and legal frameworks addressing trade-related human rights issues. His work also delves into refugee protection, criminal law reforms, and legal advocacy's role in shaping international norms. Notable contributions include analyses of refugee rights in the Asia-Pacific and ethical dimensions of trade agreements.
Recent publications highlight trends in international law's responses to modern conflicts, ethical trade practices, and governance structures. His engagement with policy extends to submissions on Queensland human rights legislation and Commonwealth procurement frameworks. He has also advised Australia's Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (2022–2023).

He leads the Centre for Public, International and Comparative Law at UQ and collaborates with global institutions like the Lauterpacht Centre. His work bridges academic research, policy advice, and practical legal training through moot competitions and scholarly publications.
