Brian Lucas is an Associate Professor of Organizational Behavior at Cornell University's School of Industrial and Labor Relations (ILR). He holds a PhD from Northwestern University, an MA from Columbia University, and a BA from Bucknell University. Prior to Cornell, he taught at Northwestern's Kellogg School and the University of Chicago's Booth School. His research focuses on the psychology of judgments, creativity, and ethical behavior in workplace and everyday contexts, emphasizing empathy, hypocrisy, and hierarchy beliefs. His work has been published in top journals like Psychological Science and Journal of Personality and Social Psychology, and featured in The New York Times and Harvard Business Review.
Lucas teaches courses on managing creativity, team leadership, and organizational behavior. His research explores how people perceive creativity, moral judgments, and decision-making biases. Notable studies include investigations into creators' misperceptions of idea theft, the impact of power dynamics on creativity, and strategies to reduce gender bias in hiring through longer candidate shortlists.
His academic contributions span experimental psychology, organizational behavior, and ethics, with a focus on bridging theoretical insights and practical organizational applications.
