- Key Projects: Author of the forthcoming book Sound Unseen, co-founder of the Sound Studies Working Group at the Whitney Humanities Center
His research explores how sound operates beyond visual contexts, analyzing its role in cultural practices from Pythagorean acoustics to modern electronic composition. Kane chairs the Society for Music Theory’s Music and Philosophy Interest Group and co-edits the humanities journal nonsite.org.
Publications span theoretical essays on composers like Xenakis and Schaeffer, as well as critical engagements with thinkers like Badiou and Nancy. His work bridges musicology, philosophy, and new media studies to interrogate sound’s epistemological and ontological dimensions.
