Andrew Lewis is a Visiting Professor and internationally recognized composer specializing in acousmatic composition. He is affiliated with the Eastman School of Music (University of Rochester), collaborating with the Electroacoustic Music Studios @ Eastman (EMuSE). His work focuses on spatial sound, aural perception, and technological innovation in music.
Education: Studied composition under Jonty Harrison at Birmingham University (UK), where he was part of the founding group of BEAST (1982), a pioneering acousmatic ensemble. His career includes decades of contributions to UK and international electroacoustic scenes.
Research emphasizes the interplay between real-world and abstract sounds, with recent works combining orchestral compositions and immersive spatial audio. A notable piece, Soundings, was composed for the Eastman Brass Guild and features 18-channel spatialization.
