Brett Palfreyman serves as Associate Professor of History at Wagner College and Director of the Center for Teaching, Learning, and Research (CTLR). His academic career spans teaching, research, and faculty development leadership within Wagner's School of Humanities and Social Sciences.
His educational qualifications include:
- Ph.D. from Binghamton University
- M.A. from Boston College
- B.A. from Boston College
Specializing in early American history, Dr. Palfreyman's research examines British loyalists who remained in the United States after the American Revolution, revealing new insights about the Revolution's scope and meaning. He is developing a major project on New York City's beer, brewing, and drinking history. His innovative teaching covers American history from colonial period to present, including specialized courses on Revolutionary Era, World War II, 1960s, Environmental History of NYC, History of Science and Medicine, and History of Beer. He also teaches public history courses analyzing historical narratives in museums, films, and theme parks.
As CTLR Director, he organizes faculty development initiatives including the Spring 2025 Learning Lunch Series addressing micro-activities for student learning, community-engaged teaching, AI in education, and writing assessment. He serves as Faculty Resource Network Liaison and supports Wagner faculty in curriculum development, lesson planning, classroom observations, and tenure processes. In 2020, his '1960s: Protest and Reform' course gained recognition for student-created podcast projects.
