Brennan Murphy is an Assistant Teaching Professor at Seattle University, affiliated with the College of Arts & Sciences' Department of Performing Arts and Arts Leadership. He also teaches at the University of Washington Law School and Seattle University Law School, focusing on Oral Persuasion and Advocacy. His career spans six decades in performing arts, including Broadway, regional theater, and dance with the Joffrey Ballet. He holds an MFA in Acting from Yale University and a Postgraduate Diploma in Voice Studies from London’s Royal Central School of Speech and Drama.
His research interests center on voice pedagogy, performance techniques, and the integration of classical and modern methodologies in acting. Notable influences include collaborations with Angela Lansbury, Uta Hagen, and Robert Joffrey, alongside work with seminal artists like Chekhov and Ibsen. He has directed productions and taught scene study, emphasizing exploration of masterworks.
Awarded Excellence in Teaching Practice and certified in Linklater and Fitzmaurice voice techniques, Murphy’s expertise spans acting, movement, and advocacy training. Over 35 years, he has taught at institutions globally, including the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama and Australia’s Western Australian Academy of Dramatic Arts.
Outside academia, he is a member of the Professional Ski Instructors Association, teaching skiing during winter weekends.
