Cynthia Bassham is a Teaching Professor of Acting and Head of Undergraduate Acting at the University of California, Irvine (UCI), within the Claire Trevor School of the Arts. She has been a full-time faculty member since 2005, specializing in voice, speech, and acting pedagogy. Her roles include faculty supervisor for the Drama 30 series and casting director for UCI productions. She is a Master Teacher of Fitzmaurice Voicework ® and serves as Director of Certification for the Fitzmaurice Institute.
Bassham holds an MFA in Acting from the American Conservatory Theater (A.C.T.) and a BA in Drama from the University of Washington. Her teaching spans institutions like Stanford University, Oregon Shakespeare Festival, and Seydways Acting Studios in San Francisco. Her expertise includes voice coaching, dialect training, and Fitzmaurice Voicework ®, which she teaches in ongoing classes.
She is a professional actor with notable roles, including originating the role of 'C' in Edward Albee’s Three Tall Women. Her awards include certifications in Fitzmaurice Voicework and membership in the Voice and Speech Trainers Association (VASTA). Bassham also oversees actor training programs at Studio ACT and Seydways Acting Studios, emphasizing actor development and performance readiness.
