Melanie Julian is an Associate Professor in the Department of Theater at Temple University's School of Theater, Film and Media Arts. She has been with Temple since 2008 and currently serves as Head of Undergraduate Acting. Her expertise spans voice and speech training, Fitzmaurice Voicework, and intimacy choreography. She is certified in yoga instruction and stage combat, and she is a registered member of The Yoga Alliance and Actors’ Equity.

Her research and teaching focus on vocal technique, pedagogy for actors, and interdisciplinary performance practices. She has contributed to curriculum redesign for MFA programs and mentors graduate teaching assistants. As Temple’s designated intimacy choreographer, she prioritizes safe and ethical performance practices for intimate scenes.
Professionally, she has performed with notable theaters including Penumbra Theatre, Pittsburgh Public Theater, and EgoPo Classic Theater. She also serves as a voice and dialect coach for institutions like the Arden Theatre Company and People’s Light & Theatre Company.
She has held leadership roles with organizations such as VASTA (Voice and Speech Trainers’ Association) and Theatrical Intimacy Education, advocating for performer safety and vocal health.
