Amy Chaffee is an Associate Professor of Theatre at Tulane University’s School of Liberal Arts, where she teaches courses such as Voice and Speech, Audition Technique, and Story Theatre. She holds an MFA from the University of San Diego/USD Old Globe Theatre and a BFA from NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts. Her professional career spans acting, directing, playwriting, and dialect coaching in theatre, film, and television.
As a researcher-practitioner, Chaffee has worked extensively in professional theatre, including roles with Door Shakespeare and Northern Sky Theatre in Wisconsin. She has also served as a dialect coach for high-profile projects like AMC’s Interview with the Vampire and Apple’s Eleven, coaching actors such as Scarlett Johansson. Her work focuses on voice training methodologies, including Fitzmaurice Voicework, for which she is a Certified Associate Teacher.
Chaffee is actively involved in professional organizations, serving on the international board of directors for the Voice and Speech Trainers Association (VASTA) and advocating for the unionization of dialect coaches. Her research interests intersect performance pedagogy, interdisciplinary theatre practices, and the intersections of voice training with contemporary media.
