Bram Vroege is a part-time PhD candidate at the Utrecht University Centre for Procurement Policy (UUCePP) within Utrecht University, employed since March 16, 2020. He concurrently serves as a senior lawyer at the Dutch Authority for Consumers and Markets (ACM), blending legal practice with academic research in European economic law.
His research centers on the intersection of market regulation and government intervention, with core interests in Competition Law, Public Procurement, European Union Law, and National Security Law. He investigates tensions between fostering competition in defense-sector procurement and safeguarding national security, analyzing whether current European frameworks adequately balance these objectives and whether member states underutilize interpretive flexibility. His work addresses strategic vulnerabilities exposed by events like the COVID-19 pandemic, advocating for EU-led reshoring of critical production capacities.
As part of UUCePP, Bram contributes to a research environment emphasizing groundbreaking interdisciplinary approaches. His dual career enables practical application of theoretical insights, particularly regarding government-market dynamics in regulated sectors.
