Bowen Zhang is a Lecturer in the School of Education at Durham University since 2024, specializing in international higher education. She holds a PhD from the Manchester Institute of Education (University of Manchester, 2019–2024), an MSc in Educational Studies from the University of Glasgow (2017–2018), and a BSc Honours in Marketing from Newcastle University (2014–2017).
Her research focuses on the internationalisation of Chinese higher education, particularly the epistemological exchanges between Chinese and Western universities through historical educational partnerships. She critically examines symbolic knowledge construction, power dynamics, and priorities in transnational education.
Recent publications explore decolonial praxis in international student research, ideologies of internationalisation, and comparative pedagogical approaches between the UK and China. She holds an Associate Fellowship in Higher Education (AFHEA, 2024).
