Bo Lagerqvist

Bo Lagerqvist is an Associate Professor at the University of Gothenburg's Department of Conservation (UGOT-C), where he has contributed significantly to developing bachelor's and master's programs. His professional experience includes serving as heritage official at Forsvik industrial heritage site (2004-2009) with responsibility for regional industrial heritage strategies in West Sweden. Between 2012-2018, he was Head of Department at UGOT-C.

His research primarily focuses on:

• Industrial heritage conservation and interpretation
• Sustainable landscape management
• Heritage education models
• Post-conflict heritage reconciliation
• Maritime and transport heritage

He has led international collaborations including work with Cultural Heritage without Borders in the Western Balkans, initiatives at the former Union Carbide site in Bhopal, India, and currently serves as ICOMOS lead scientist for the Charter Alliance project co-managing Work Package 2.

Lagerqvist's publications demonstrate interdisciplinary engagement with heritage studies, environmental science, and social anthropology. Recent works prioritize themes of sustainability in cultural landscapes, climate adaptation of heritage infrastructure, and decolonial approaches to industrial heritage interpretation. His European-focused research frequently examines cases from Albania, Hungary, and Sweden.

He maintains active fieldwork commitments, including a 2018-2019 sabbatical in Tirana collaborating with the University of Tirana's Department of Archaeology and Heritage Studies. His educational initiatives emphasize practical conservation training through Regional Restoration Camps.
