Blanca Castells Somoza

Blanca Castells Somoza is an Associate Professor in the Department of Energy and Fuels at the Polytechnic University of Madrid (UPM), holding a permanent position since May 2025. She is an active member of the Industrial Safety: Explosive Atmospheres research group (affiliated since 2017) and the Technological Center for Safety and Quality in Energy and Mining Industries (TECMINERGY, affiliated since 2022), where she also serves as Assistant Professor.

Her research focuses on Safety Engineering, particularly explosive atmospheres and risk assessment, extending to Energy Engineering (energy & fuels systems) and Chemical Engineering. She actively contributes to interdisciplinary domains including Industrial Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, Materials Science, and Operations Research, emphasizing reliability, quality control, and safety standards in energy and mining contexts.

At TECMINERGY, Dr. Castells Somoza leads collaborative projects developing technological solutions for safety enhancement in energy and mining industries, leveraging her expertise in multidisciplinary engineering frameworks to address complex industrial challenges.
