Bilal Alkhaffaf is a MAHSC Honorary Clinical Professor and Consultant Oesophago-Gastric Surgeon at Salford Royal NHS Foundation Trust and Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust. He specializes in oesophageal/gastric cancer management, obesity surgery, and minimally invasive techniques. His research focuses on surgical outcome reporting, including a NIHR-funded international study to standardize gastric cancer trial outcomes. He leads the Upper GI Unit’s research efforts and supervises PhD students/trainees. He co-leads the ‘Transformative Oncology’ master’s program at the University of Manchester and directs an international Senior Clinical Fellowship in oesophago-gastric surgery.
Education: Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery (The University of Manchester, 2003).
Research interests include surgical oncology, outcomes research, and metabolic disorders. Collaborates nationally/internationally on multi-center studies. Key publications address bariatric surgery outcomes, core outcome set development, and perioperative care in high-risk patients.
