Dr. Bidroha Basu is an Assistant Lecturer and Researcher at the Department of Civil, Structural and Environmental Engineering, Munster Technological University (MTU). He concurrently holds an Adjunct Assistant Professor position at Trinity College Dublin (TCD). With 16 years of research experience, his work focuses on water resources engineering, climate change modeling, remote sensing, and hydro-meteorological hazards. He has authored over 40 peer-reviewed papers, contributed to high-impact projects like FAIRMODE and iSCAPE, and led an Irish EPA-funded project analyzing climate and land cover changes on water quality. Dr. Basu’s research integrates machine learning, statistical analysis, and GIS to address environmental challenges such as flood prediction and plastic pollution detection. He is a recipient of the Prof. N S Govinda Rao Medal for Best PhD Thesis (2015-16) and has reviewed over 200 manuscripts.
Education: BE(Hons), ME, MSc(Eng), PhD in Civil Engineering. Prior roles include Postdoctoral Research Fellowships at Trinity College Dublin, University College Dublin, and North Carolina State University. He has contributed to four EU-funded projects and two Irish-funded initiatives, emphasizing nature-based solutions (NbS) for disaster risk reduction and urban sustainability.
Research interests include extreme event modeling, water quality analysis, and citizen science approaches for environmental monitoring. He leads the SIRIG research group and serves as a guest editor for Frontiers and Sustainability journals. Current projects focus on climate adaptation strategies and urban ecosystem resilience in Ireland.
