Joe Harrington

Dr. Joe Harrington is the Head of School of Building & Civil Engineering at Munster Technological University (MTU), overseeing teaching, research, and engagement activities. He holds qualifications including a BE, MS, PhD, and is a Chartered Engineer (CEng) and Fellow of Engineers Ireland (FIEI). His expertise spans sediment behavior, water resources, and sustainable infrastructure. Dr. Harrington completed his education at University College Cork and the University of California, Berkeley.

His research focuses on sediment management, river and coastal environments, and the circular economy. Recent publications address phosphorus recovery, sustainable infrastructure, and environmental policy. He leads the Sustainable Infrastructure Research & Innovation Group (SIRIG) and coordinates large-scale EU-funded projects like CEAMaS, PHOS4You, and SURICATES.
