معرفی
Bernhard Brandl is a Full Professor of Infrared Astronomy at Leiden University (Leiden Observatory) and holds a part-time Full Professorship in Astronomy & Instrumentation at the Technical University Delft's Faculty of Aerospace Engineering, Department of Space Engineering. His research focuses on starburst galaxies, instrumentation development, and adaptive optics. He leads the METIS instrument project for the European Extremely Large Telescope (E-ELT) and serves as Deputy Dutch co-PI for JWST-MIRI.
Educational Background:
- PhD in Physics (1996), Munich
- Diploma in Particle Physics (1991), Erlangen
Research Interests: Starburst galaxy dynamics, infrared spectroscopy, and cutting-edge instrumentation like METIS, MIRI, and adaptive optics systems. His work bridges observational astronomy with advanced telescope technology, particularly for large-scale projects like the E-ELT.
Key Roles:
- Principal Investigator of METIS instrument
- Member of IAU, AAS, SPIE
Teaching: Courses include 'Detection of Light' (BSc/MSc), Observing Techniques, and graduate seminars on stellar evolution. Supervises PhD/MSc students in starburst research and instrumentation.
Labs/Teams: Leads a research group at Leiden focused on starburst phenomena and instrumentation, collaborating with technical experts from the NOVA O/IR group.
