Sarah Kendrew is an Instrument & Calibration Scientist for the Mid-Infrared Instrument (MIRI) on the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) at the European Space Agency (ESA). She leads the MIRI Low Resolution Spectrometer team and is a core member of the MIRI Commissioning Team. Her research focuses on high-mass star formation in the Milky Way and exoplanet studies, leveraging MIRI's capabilities. She has held postdoctoral positions at institutions including the University of Leiden, University of Oxford, and the Max Planck Institute for Astronomy.
Education:
- PhD in Physics (University College London, 2006)
- Postdoctoral Research at University of Leiden (2007–2010), University of Oxford (2013–2016), and Max Planck Institute for Astronomy (2010–2013)
Research Interests: Instrumentation development for space and ground-based telescopes, including METIS, HARMONI, and GRAVITY. Active in high-mass star formation, exoplanet atmospheres, and innovative technology for astronomy.
Professional Contributions: Co-organizer of the .Astronomy conference since 2008, promoting technology-driven astronomy and public engagement. Member of ESA's JWST Science Operations Team at the Space Telescope Science Institute (Baltimore).
Labs/Teams: MIRI Commissioning Team, JWST Science Operations Team, and the PDRs4All ERS program studying radiative feedback in star-forming regions.
