His research focuses on the church, landowning society, and politics in England from the Norman Conquest to the Reformation. He is currently writing books on aristocratic attitudes toward the church’s property, including a study of the Alien Priories, and plans a textbook on religion and the church in late-medieval English politics and society.
Research Interests: Thompson’s work bridges religious, political, and social history, emphasizing themes such as the Dissolution of the Monasteries, the Hundred Years War’s impact on French-jurisdiction institutions, and the interplay between religion and power. He also examines cultural and societal dynamics in medieval England.
