Dr. Grant Tapsell is a Lecturer (CUF) in Early Modern History at Lady Margaret Hall, University of Oxford. His research focuses on the political and religious dynamics of 17th-century Britain, particularly the Restoration period (1660–1688) and the Church of England’s evolution. Current projects include a study of Archbishop William Sancroft and an edited collection of his letters for the Church of England Record Society.
His teaching spans undergraduate and graduate levels, covering British Isles history from 1500–1700, European history (1400–1650), and专题如“Revolution and Republic, 1647–58.” He actively supervises DPhil students in Stuart-era political and religious history.
Key publications include Revolutionary England, c.1630–c.1660 (2016) and The Later Stuart Church, 1660–1714 (2012). Collaborations often emerge from classroom discussions, such as Restoration Politics, Religion and Culture (2010), which originated from Oxford undergraduate lectures.
Current DPhil supervisees include Kit Barbour-Mercer (St Catherine’s College) and Matthew Leech-Gerrard (New College). His research bridges political conflicts and religious institutions, emphasizing the interplay between church policy and state authority.
