Benjamin Mba, MBBS, MRCP (UK), CHCQM, FACP, is a Professor of Medicine (General Medicine) at Yale University’s Yale School of Medicine. He serves as Vice Chair of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) for the Department of Internal Medicine and GME Director for DEI at Yale New Haven Hospital (YNHH). Dr. Mba joined Yale in July 2023, bringing extensive experience in inclusive excellence advocacy, faculty development, and residency program leadership. He previously held roles as Associate Chair of Medicine for Faculty Development at Cook County Health and Professor at Rush Medical College.
Education: MBBS from the University of Lagos, Nigeria; Internal Medicine residencies in the UK (MRCP-UK) and Cook County Hospital (Chief Resident).
Research interests focus on DEI in healthcare, medical education, and clinical medicine. His work includes developing the Inclusion Activity Scale, an evaluation tool for DEI contributions in academic promotions. Key publications address health equity in education, disparities in cardiovascular outcomes, and trends in gastrointestinal and oncologic conditions.
Awards include the Sir William Osler Award (four-time), Cook County’s Cooker Award (four-time), and the ACP Certificate of Appreciation for Mentoring. He is a sought-after speaker on DEI, clinical reasoning, and resident well-being.
Led initiatives at Yale include the first departmental DEI climate survey, recruitment strategies for diverse faculty, and national studies on DEI impact metrics. Collaborates with YNHH on GME DEI policies and serves as an Associate Designated Institutional Official.
