Lou Hart, MD, is an Assistant Professor of Pediatrics (Hospital Medicine) and Medical Director of Health Equity at Yale New Haven Health System. His mission focuses on dismantling structural racial inequities and redesigning healthcare systems to prioritize human dignity. He graduated from the University of California, San Diego (MD), Yale School of Management (MBA), and Vanderbilt University (BA in Medicine, Health & Society). His clinical expertise lies in pediatric hospital medicine, complemented by leadership roles in health equity initiatives.
Research interests include eliminating racial bias in clinical algorithms, improving social needs screening, and advocating for equity-centered healthcare policies. Notable contributions include the STONE score (race-free ureteral stone prediction) and critiques of race-based hyperbilirubinemia guidelines. He has received teaching awards for clinical mentorship during residency training.
Awards: Three consecutive teaching excellence awards (2017–2019) from NYU School of Medicine. Professional activities include leadership in the Ending Racial Biology in Medicine Taskforce and founding the YNHHS Pride Health Network.
