Benjamin Lorenzo serves as Associate Professor of Music and Director of Bands at Kent State University's Glauser School of Music, where he conducts the Wind Ensemble, teaches conducting, and leads the university band program. He also instructs summer electives for the Online Master of Music in Music Education program.

Dr. Lorenzo specializes in wind band conducting with deep expertise in Latin American band traditions, having conducted ensembles across Mexico, Panama, Peru, Colombia, and the Dominican Republic. His research focuses on orchestration (notably his praised transcription of Corigliano's The Red Violin Chaconne), diversity initiatives in music education, and pedagogical approaches for instrumental conductors. His scholarly work appears in the Journal of Band Research and WASBE Journal, with contributions to the Teaching Music through Performance in Band series.
As an active clinician, he has conducted the West Point Academy Band, World Youth Wind Orchestra Project in Austria, and Malaysian ensembles. He chairs the Diversity Committee for the College Band Directors National Association (CBDNA) and serves on the Music Education Alliance advisory board for the William P. Foster Project supporting underserved band programs.

Originally from Havana, Cuba, and raised in Miami, Dr. Lorenzo began his teaching career in Florida public schools before holding band director positions at Oklahoma State University, Texas Tech University, and the University of Arkansas (where he led the Razorback Marching Band).
