Dr. Benjamin Berend is a Research Associate at the Chair of Empirical Teaching-Learning Research and Didactics within the Faculty of Educational Sciences at the University of Trier. He has held this position since June 2012 and maintains consultation hours for the summer semester 2024. Additionally, he works as a freelance lecturer in adult education, delivering workshops and training sessions across Germany.
Dr. Berend earned his First State Examination with distinction in January 2012 after studying political science, philosophy, and educational sciences at the universities of Trier and Bologna from 2003 to 2012. He completed his doctorate in 2018 with summa cum laude honors for his dissertation titled 'On the interdependence of achievement motivation and subjective well-being in students. An intervention-based study.'
His research focuses on the intersection of motivation, positive psychology, and educational contexts, with particular emphasis on hedonism, constructivism, and the evolving concept of 'New Work' in the postdigital age. Dr. Berend's work consistently explores how positive psychological principles can enhance educational practices and workplace environments, examining the relationship between achievement motivation, subjective well-being, and flourishing in various settings.
His scholarly output demonstrates a clear trajectory from foundational work on hedonism and positive psychology toward increasingly applied research on workplace transformation. The most recent publications show a strong focus on 'New Work' concepts, examining sovereignty in the postdigital age and how positive psychology can transform organizational structures and individual experiences of work.
