She previously served as Associate Professor (2010-2011) and Postdoctoral Fellow (2007-2010) at BI, and as Research Director at Oslo Metropolitan University (2011-2013). Brøgger has international experience as Visiting Scholar at the University of Chicago (2007-2009) and as Academic Director for the BI-Fudan MBA program in Shanghai (2015-2017).
Brøgger holds a Ph.D. in Social Anthropology from the University of Oslo (2001) and a Mag.art in Sociology from the same institution (1989). Prior to her academic career, she worked in commercial banking and public administration finance departments, providing practical business experience that informs her research.
Her research focuses on cultural dimensions of business and growth, examining social entrepreneurship and innovation, intercultural communication, and cross-cultural management. Brøgger employs anthropological and participatory research methods, conducting long-term fieldwork in Southeast Asia and shorter projects in Norwegian retail, oil and energy, and process industry companies. Her work explores the conditions for mutual understanding and binding cooperation between different stakeholder groups, investigating how cultural factors shape business practices and organizational dynamics.
Brøgger's scholarly output reveals consistent engagement with social entrepreneurship across different cultural contexts, particularly in Norway and China. Her research increasingly examines tax compliance through an anthropological lens, revealing how time and space dimensions affect multinational corporation taxation. She has made significant contributions to understanding the cultural production of commodities through her concept of 'waremaking,' which examines both silent and seen design practices in retail.
