Kristensen's research program critically examines innovation diffusion, diversity dynamics, and marketing strategies within creative industries undergoing digital disruption. Her work investigates how global digital infrastructures reshape national cultural policies, with particular focus on book industries, streaming services, and generational consumption patterns. She employs mixed-method approaches to analyze emotional attachments to physical media versus digital formats and barriers to technology adoption.
Analysis of her publication record reveals consistent exploration of digital book ecosystems, with emphasis on consumer behavior toward streaming services, influencer marketing in media launches, and diversity outcomes in national digital collections. Her research bridges theoretical frameworks from innovation diffusion, technology acceptance, and cultural policy studies.
As an educator, Kristensen teaches core courses in creative industries management, communication, sustainable project management, and innovation. She actively supervises bachelor's and master's theses while leading the Digitization and Diversity research project funded by the Norwegian Research Council (grant 247602). Her work directly informs policy discussions on maintaining cultural diversity in platform-dominated media landscapes.
Her institutional contributions extend through the BI Centre for Creative Industries, where she collaborates on projects examining digital transformations across publishing, festival management, and library services, with particular attention to accessibility challenges in emerging streaming platforms.
