Ben Collins is a Professor in the School of Biological Sciences at Queen's University Belfast. He leads research in proteomics and mass spectrometry, focusing on method development for data-independent acquisition (DIA), chemical proteomics, and drug discovery. His work addresses protein-protein interactions, host-pathogen interactions, and innate immunity mechanisms. Collins is actively involved in the Human Proteome Organization (HUPO) as a council member and leads initiatives in chemical proteomics and drug discovery. He has secured funding through projects like the Future Medicines Institute and the Molecular Glue Screens initiative.
Collins has been awarded the HUPO Discovery in Proteomic Sciences Award (2020), Innovate UK Knowledge Transfer Partnership (2023), and fellowships from Newman Postdoctoral (2009) and Swiss National Science Foundation (2016). His research has been highlighted in media including BBC News and Molecular Cell 'Meet the Author' interviews. He supervises PhD students in topics related to proteomics method development and drug discovery applications.
Key collaborations span international institutions, with projects on antimicrobial resistance, protein complex dynamics, and heart failure proteomics. He chairs HUPO Chemical Proteomics and Drug Discovery initiatives and organizes workshops on mass spectrometry techniques. The Collins Lab (collinslab.net) develops cutting-edge methodologies for quantitative proteomics and translational drug research.
