معرفی
Dr. Mark Collins is a Senior Lecturer in Biological Mass Spectrometry and Deputy Director of the Mass Spectrometry Centre at The University of Sheffield's School of Biosciences. His expertise lies in proteomics, focusing on post-translational modifications (PTMs) such as palmitoylation and their roles in neurodegenerative diseases like Alzheimer's and ALS. He holds a PhD in Neuroscience from the University of Edinburgh and has extensive postdoctoral experience at the Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute.
- Education:
- PhD in Neuroscience, University of Edinburgh (2001-2005)
- BSc in Biochemistry, University College Dublin (1996-2000)
His research interests include neuroproteomics, palmitoylation regulation, and ALS pathogenesis. He employs advanced mass spectrometry techniques to study protein dynamics and signaling pathways. Key collaborations include work with Prof. Shaun Cowley (University of Leicester) and Prof. Pamela Shaw (University of Sheffield). Dr. Collins teaches modules in cell/molecular biosciences and directs the Mass Spectrometry-based Proteomics and Metabolomics course. He has secured grants from BBSRC, MRC, and other organizations.
His articles highlight contributions to understanding bacterial pathogenesis, epigenetic regulation, and ALS biomarkers. He supervises multiple PhD students and co-leads the Mass Spectrometry Centre, supporting interdisciplinary research in proteomics.
