Becky Allen is a Lecturer in Computer Science (Data Science) at the University of Sunderland. She holds a BSc in Music Technology from Teesside University, an MSc in Computer Science from Newcastle University, and a PhD in Artificial Intelligence focusing on pedagogical approaches to teaching. Her research explores AI applications in music, data sonification, and innovative computer science education. She teaches modules including Software Engineering, Artificial Intelligence, and Advanced Programming, and supervises undergraduate, postgraduate, and PhD projects.
Her work integrates AI with creative fields, such as developing human-centered digital musical instruments and immersive learning environments. She has contributed to frameworks for teaching AI in higher education and investigates student engagement through projects like escape room simulations. Her recent publications span healthcare AI (e.g., Alzheimer’s detection via acoustic analysis) and educational technology, emphasizing pedagogical innovation.
Dr. Allen is affiliated with the David Goldman Technology Centre at the University of Sunderland and actively participates in academic discussions on AI ethics and teaching methodologies.
