Sam Danso is a Senior Lecturer in Computer Science at the University of Sunderland, with affiliations as Adjunct Professor at the School of Allied Health Sciences, University of Cape Coast (Ghana), and Honorary Academic Fellow at the Edinburgh Dementia Prevention and Centre for Clinical Brain Sciences (University of Edinburgh Medical School). He holds a PhD in Artificial Intelligence (University of Leeds), MSc in Advanced Software Engineering (Bournemouth University), and BSc in Computer Science (University of Sunderland).
His research focuses on applied AI and data science in brain health, privacy of AI models, and trustworthy AI. He leads the Ghana Prevent Programme (funded by Alzheimer's Disease Data Initiative and Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation) and previously managed the AI Model Inferencing Project (funded by the UK Information Commissioner’s Office). He is a member of the Scottish Dementia Research Consortium, Alzheimer’s Research UK Scotland Network, Brain Health Scotland Expert Hub, and the Collaboration for Alzheimer Prevention Data Sharing Working Group.
Teaching roles include Module Leader for CET140 (Specialist Project) and FDN006 (Foundations of Computing). He supervises MSc students in Applied Data Science and Data Science programs and serves on Ionian University’s PhD Advisory Committee. Awards include the Gates Sr. AD Fellowship.
He has held prior roles as Academic Fellow (University of Edinburgh), Research Associate (Newcastle University), Visiting Scientist (Harvard University), Consultant (London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine), and Data Science Manager in Ghana.
