Barbara Roth

Barbara Roth is a Professor of Anthropology and Chair of the Department of Anthropology at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV), specializing in North American archaeology with emphasis on the Southwest and Great Basin regions.

She earned her Ph.D. from the University of Arizona.

Her research examines hunter-gatherer adaptations to arid environments in the Southwest and Mojave Desert, focusing on agricultural adoption impacts in the southern Southwest. Fieldwork in New Mexico's Mimbres Mogollon region analyzes household and community reorganization during transitions to sedentary agriculture.

Her scholarly output includes the award-winning book Agricultural Origins in the American Southwest, seven edited volumes, and multiple articles and book chapters.
