Barbara J. Roth

Barbara J. Roth is Professor and former Department Chair (2012-2018) of Anthropology at UNLV. She holds a Ph.D. in Archaeology from the University of Arizona and B.A. in Journalism from University of Colorado. Her research examines hunter-gatherer adaptations in arid environments, particularly the transition to agriculture in the American Southwest.

Current Research: Roth directs excavations at the Harris Site in New Mexico's Mimbres Valley, investigating household organization during the pithouse period (AD 200-1000). Her NSF-funded project analyzes how sedentism and agriculture transformed social structures among Mogollon communities.
