Barbara Hayley serves as Professor and Director of Graduate Studies in Dance at Tulane University's Department of Theatre & Dance, where she has been a core faculty member since 1985. Her teaching encompasses ballet, modern dance, choreography, and community engagement courses.
Her educational foundation includes an MFA from New York University Tisch School of the Arts. Her artistic career spans New York and New Orleans, where she directed Barbara Hayley & Dancers in NYC and now leads New Orleans Dance—a project-based company uniting professional artists, teachers, and choreographers.
Hayley's research centers on applied dance practices for social equity, notably through co-teaching “Building Community through the Arts” with Xavier University's Ron Bechet since 2009. - 2019 New Orleans Arts Council Lifetime Achievement Award
As Director of Graduate Studies, she oversees dance pedagogy while directing New Orleans Dance's civic projects. Her New York background includes Wagner College teaching and performance collaborations with major choreographers, establishing her trajectory from stage artist to community-engaged educator.
