Julia Mayo is an Associate Professor and Chair of the Dance Department at DeSales University’s College of Arts, Education, and Humanities. She holds a BFA in Dance from The Juilliard School and an MFA in Dance Performance and Choreography from New York University’s Tisch School for the Arts.

Julia’s choreography explores human emotions and relationships through systematic study of movement, emphasizing physicality and intention. Her work has been presented by institutions such as the Baton Rouge Ballet Theatre, DeSales University, University of Wyoming, Lafayette College, and festivals across the country. She is dedicated to fostering a deep understanding of dance as an art form, encouraging students to explore the human body’s artistic and communicative capabilities.
Julia grew up performing with the Baton Rouge Ballet Theater and trained in New York City. She has collaborated with choreographers Eliot Feld, Aszure Barton, Seán Curran, and Jacquelyn Buglisi, and performed repertory by Paul Taylor, Mark Morris, and Antony Tudor. She was a member of Cherylyn Lavagnino Dance in NYC and has performed nationally and internationally.
