Babu Nath is a Research Fellow at the Gulbali Institute for Biosecurity, Charles Sturt University (CSU), where he conducts advanced research in molecular and structural virology. He is affiliated with the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and collaborates closely with the Jade Forwood lab, focusing on protein expression, purification, and crystallography. His work also supports the veterinary pathology team and the Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory at CSU, with an emphasis on molecular diagnosis and genotyping of veterinary pathogens.
His educational background includes a PhD in Veterinary Science from Charles Sturt University, awarded in 2022, for his research on the biology of circovirus-encoded proteins, particularly pigeon circovirus. Prior to joining CSU, he served as a full-time academic in the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at Chittagong Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Bangladesh.
Babu Nath’s research centers on the epidemiology of infectious diseases, viral evolution, and the integration of genomics and structural biology to discover novel veterinary pathogens and develop recombinant protein-based vaccines. His expertise contributes to the UN Sustainable Development Goals, particularly in health and well-being. He has published extensively, with recent work focusing on avian papillomaviruses, rotavirus recombination, Torque teno virus in pigeons, and adenovirus protein mechanisms. His publications reveal a strong trend toward translational biosecurity solutions, including diagnostics and thermostable vaccines.
He is actively involved in collaborative research across Australia and internationally, particularly in Bangladesh and other regions with high zoonotic disease risk. His work bridges molecular virology, structural biology, and practical biosecurity applications, positioning him at the forefront of veterinary infectious disease research.
