Professor Sir Aziz Sheikh is a leading academic at The University of Edinburgh, serving as Dean of Data, Director of the Asthma UK Centre for Applied Research (AUKCAR), Research Director of Health Data Research UK, and Deputy Director of the NIHR Global Health Research Unit on Respiratory Health (RESPIRE). He holds the academic rank of Professor of Primary Care Research and Development at the Usher Institute within the College of Medicine and Veterinary Medicine.
His qualifications include BSc, MBBS, MSc, MD, and numerous fellowships (FRCGP, FRCP, FRSE, FMedSci). He has advised international bodies like the World Bank and WHO, and serves on editorial boards for journals such as The Lancet Regional Health Europe and PLoS Medicine, while editing the International Journal for Quality in Health Care.
Notable achievements include an OBE (2014) and knighthood (2022) for contributions to medicine and pandemic research. His research focuses on respiratory health, health informatics, and global health, leveraging data science to address healthcare challenges.
