David Weller is the James Mackenzie Professor of General Practice and Programme Co-Director of the Master of Family Medicine at the University of Edinburgh. He serves as Co-Head of the Centre for Population Health Sciences within the Usher Institute, part of the College of Medicine and Veterinary Medicine. His primary affiliations include the Global Health Academy and Deanery of Molecular, Genetic and Population Health Sciences.
Research focuses on primary healthcare optimization, cancer screening strategies, chronic disease management, and global health system strengthening. Notable projects include risk-stratified colorectal cancer screening in the UK and pulmonary rehabilitation initiatives in rural India. He has secured over 80 research grants, including leadership roles in the NIHR Global Health Research Unit on Respiratory Health (RESPIRE-2).
Publications span 150 peer-reviewed articles across journals like Colorectal Cancer and Journal of Global Health. Awards include the 2025 NIHR Impact Prize for contributions to respiratory disease management. His work integrates stakeholder engagement frameworks to address healthcare inequities globally.
