Dr. Aylin Ates is a Reader (Associate Professor) in Strategy & Innovation at the University of Strathclyde Business School, affiliated with the Hunter Centre for Entrepreneurship, Strategy and Innovation. She holds a PhD from the University of Strathclyde and a BSc in Industrial Engineering from Istanbul Technical University. Her academic leadership includes roles as Co-Editor of the International Journal of Productivity and Performance Management and co-leading the university’s interdisciplinary 'Innovation & Entrepreneurship' research theme.
Her research interests focus on strategic management, innovation, digital transformation, organisational resilience, and SME development, particularly within manufacturing ecosystems. She employs qualitative data analysis and investigates topics such as co-opetition, servitisation, and performance management in SMEs. Her work contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goals, particularly in economic growth and industry innovation.
Her recent publications explore co-opetition dynamics, circular economy business models, and knowledge co-creation in KTP projects, demonstrating a strong trend toward interdisciplinary, policy-relevant research in innovation and strategic management. These works apply advanced methodologies like fuzzy cognitive mapping and system dynamics modeling.

She supervises PhD, DBA, MSc, and MBA projects and serves as an external examiner at Coventry University. She is actively involved in professional service, including peer review for UKRI, the British Academy of Management, and UNIDO advisory roles.
She contributes to academic governance as a member of the European Academy of Management Scientific Council, elected member of the University Senate, Faculty Board of Examiners, and as University Dignity & Respect Adviser. She also chairs the 'Innovation & Entrepreneurship' research theme and delivers teaching in Strategic Management and Organisational Change at postgraduate and executive levels.
