Awad Ibrahim is a Full Professor in the Faculty of Education at the University of Ottawa and serves as Vice-Provost, Equity, Diversity and Inclusive Excellence. He holds the Air Canada Professorship on Anti-Racism. His academic journey includes a PhD from the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education (OISE) at the University of Toronto and prior teaching roles at Bowling Green State University (Ohio) and international collaborations in Morocco, Sudan, and the U.S. His research focuses on curriculum theory, cultural studies, Hip-Hop, and anti-racism, with an emphasis on social justice, diasporic identities, and applied linguistics.

Research & Projects
Dr. Ibrahim’s work bridges theory and practice, addressing critical Black studies, youth studies, and the intersection of Hip-Hop with education. Current projects include ethnographic studies of urban schools, anti-racism initiatives, and diasporic cultural identities. He advocates for equity in education through projects like the Canadian Playful Schools Network.
Publications & Awards
He has authored/edited over 100 works, including Nuances of Blackness in the Canadian Academy (2022) and Disruptive Learning Narrative Framework (2021). Notable awards include the Canadian Association of Foundations of Education Publication Award (2018) and the Society of Professors of Education Outstanding Book Award (2017).
