Dr. OmiSoore Dryden is a Professor and James R. Johnston Endowed Chair in Black Canadian Studies at Dalhousie University's Faculty of Medicine, leading the Interim Director role for the Black Studies in STEMM Research Institute. She holds a PhD from OISE/University of Toronto, an MA and BA from York University.
Her research focuses on Black LGBTQI communities, anti-Black racism in healthcare, medical education reform, and blood donation systems. Key projects include the #GotBlood2Give study analyzing barriers for Black queer donors and the Don’t Count Us Out initiative addressing African Nova Scotian health equity.
Dr. Dryden has received awards such as the 2022 Med 3 Professor of the Year and contributes to organizations like the CIHR Anti-Racism Committee and the Black Feminist Health Science Collective. She advocates for systemic change through publications like the CMAJ anti-racism commentary and leads community-informed health initiatives.
