Sachin Maharaj is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Educational Leadership, Policy and Program Evaluation at the University of Ottawa's Faculty of Education. He holds a PhD from the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education (OISE), University of Toronto, along with an M.A., B.Ed., and B.B.A. His research focuses on school board governance, anti-racist reforms, student phone use policies, and the equity implications of school choice. He has published in journals like Leadership and Policy in Schools and frequently contributes to media outlets such as Canadian Journal of Educational Administration and Policy, CBC, and Toronto Star. His current projects examine cellphone ban effectiveness and systemic racism in educational institutions.
Dr. Maharaj previously taught in the Toronto District School Board and lectured at OISE, where he was a Joseph-Armand Bombardier Canada Graduate Scholar. He co-authored articles on topics ranging from academic streaming's social impacts to the political polarization of school boards. His media engagements include op-eds on hybrid education challenges, affirmative action gaps, and school infrastructure crises.
