Dr. Avril Brandon is an Assistant Professor/Lecturer in Criminology at Maynooth University's Department of Law since 2019. Her research focuses on ethnic prejudice within criminal justice systems and the experiences of minority ethnic groups. She holds a PhD in Psychology from University College Dublin and has conducted interdisciplinary studies on sentencing disparities, Traveller community interactions with law enforcement, and pandemic impacts on penal systems. Key projects include examining Traveller prison-release experiences and leading an evidence review on ethnic monitoring in criminal justice systems.
