Austen Leigh LaRocca is an Assistant Professor of Art History at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point. Her research focuses on ancient Roman material culture, interdisciplinary approaches to cultural heritage, and the reception of classical art in political and social contexts. She is affiliated with the College Art Association and the Archaeological Institute of America.
- PhD in Art History and Cultural Heritage and Preservation Studies from Rutgers University
- MA in Art History and Archaeology from the Institute of Fine Arts, NYU
- BA in Art History, Classics, and English from Rutgers University
Her research explores diachronic analysis of Roman monuments like arches, their ideological reinterpretations across eras, and the intersection of archaeology with armed conflict and heritage preservation. She has conducted fieldwork in Sicily and Turkey.
LaRocca is active in academic discourse, presenting at conferences such as the Tufts University Art History Symposium and the Southeastern College Art Conference. Her upcoming work includes analyses of Roman forums in 19th-century political contexts and fascist-era monument reception.
