Laura Pfuntner is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of History at Queen's University Belfast's School of History, Anthropology, Philosophy and Politics. She specializes in Roman history and archaeology, with a focus on ancient Sicily, urbanism, and Greek/Roman historiography. She teaches courses on Pompeii, Alexander the Great, and the ancient city, and supervises dissertations in Ancient History. Her research explores themes like Strabo's urban analysis, Roman imperial governance, and medieval receptions of classical texts.
Her achievements include a Senior Fellowship (SFHEA) awarded in March 2024. She has published widely on topics such as Roman urbanism in Sicily, ancient historiography, and gender studies in late antiquity. She actively participates in academic conferences, including the 2025 'Sertorian War' conference and the 2024 AIA/SCS Joint Annual Meeting.
Laura is open to PhD applications in Roman history and contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goals related to cultural heritage preservation through her work on urban landscapes and historiography.
