Giovanni Mastronuzzi is an Associate Professor of Classical Archaeology at the Faculty of Cultural Heritage, University of Salento. His career spans excavation campaigns in Italy (Acquarica, Alezio, Oria, etc.) and Turkey (Hierapolis), with a focus on Messapian, Greek, and Roman archaeological complexes. He has taught courses like 'Archaeology of Magna Graecia' and 'Greek and Roman Art History' since 2001.

His research interests include Greek colonization in Italy and Sicily, ceramic studies, cult archaeology, and the interplay between indigenous and Greek communities. He has published extensively on topics like the early Christian cemetery of Vaste and Roman domestic architecture, with a methodological emphasis on artifact classification and stratigraphic analysis.
Over the past decade, his publications have focused on ceramic typology (2021), sanctuary organization (2022), and the archaeology of otium spaces in Roman residences (2025). His work bridges classical archaeology with sustainable development goals, particularly urban inclusivity and cultural heritage preservation.
