She leads the Division of Cardiovascular Sciences and serves as Cardiovascular branch lead for the Lydia Becker Institute. Her research focuses on structural and molecular mechanisms linking obesity, diabetes, and heart failure, with expertise in electron microscopy and mitochondrial biology.
- Education: BSc Applied Chemistry (Cardiff University), PhD Biochemistry (Imperial College London)
Research interests include mitochondrial remodelling in metabolic heart disease, using advanced imaging techniques like SBF-SEM. Recent work identifies early-stage metabolic shifts in diabetes leading to heart dysfunction. Over 50 peer-reviewed publications and multiple BHF grants highlight her contributions.
Awarded two consecutive BHF Basic Science Lectureship Awards and a Programme Grant. Supervised numerous PhD students with 100% completion. Teaches on MBChB and MSc programs, including Programme Director for Cardiovascular Health & Disease.
Labs/Teams: Active in Lydia Becker Institute's cardiovascular immunology domain, collaborating on projects involving human iPSC-cardiomyocytes.
