Dr. Amanda MacCannell is a Research Fellow at the Leeds Institute of Cardiovascular and Metabolic Medicine, University of Leeds, UK. She leads a British Heart Foundation (BHF)-funded research group investigating metabolic mechanisms underlying cardiovascular and metabolic diseases. Her work focuses on adipose tissue biology, mitochondrial metabolism, and metabolic phenotyping to address obesity and diabetes.
- Education:
- BSc in Genetics (with minors in Immunology and Microbiology) from the University of Western Ontario, Canada
- MSc in Biochemistry and Physiology from the University of Western Ontario, Canada
- PhD in Cardiovascular and Metabolic Medicine from the University of Leeds
- Research Interests: Metabolism, adipose tissue homeostasis, beige/brown fat thermogenesis, mitochondrial function, and metabolic disease pathophysiology.

- Associate Fellow of the Higher Education Academy
- Early Career Member, Biochemical Society and Physiology Society
- UKCGE Recognised Research Associate Supervisor
- Grants: Principal Investigator on a BHF Grant (Cardiovascular research).
